As 2019 draws to an end, it’s time to put the spotlight on our final employee of the year, Steven Kuipers. Don’t worry, we’ll continue the series in 2020 as there are many more employees we want to introduce. You see…here at Mopinion we consider our people the backbone of our business. They are what makes it possible for us to create and deliver an innovative software that guarantees great value for our customers. That is why we started this series in the first place. So let’s keep it going…
Meet Steven. Steven joined our Customer Success team six months ago to help take on the growing amount of customer support requests. As one of our trusty Customer Support Specialists, he’s primarily responsible for keeping our customers happy. But when he’s not working on customer tickets, he spends his time bouldering or creating video games for his daughter.
So what does Steven think about working at Mopinion? Let’s find out.
What initially drew you to Mopinion?
Steven was in search of a job that lined up with his previous job experience but still provided a good challenge.
I have a background in Customer Support and I studied Technical Information so I thought the position of Customer Support Specialist was the perfect opportunity to combine the two.’
He was also really intrigued by the idea of working at a smaller company, with less hierarchy.
‘For example, when I was interviewing for the position, I had a really nice conversation with the manager. He was easy to talk to and laid back, which gave me a good feeling about the company.’
Steven also shared that he was drawn to the freedom every employee is given in their work. That’s a major plus.
What does a typical work day look like for you?
‘I come in and grab a cup of coffee and start running through the most urgent tickets from customers. From there, I’ll usually pick out the easiest ones and just get those wrapped up quickly before I start focusing on the more demanding tasks that require more time.’
What is your favorite part about working at Mopinion?
‘The work and the colleagues. My colleagues are great people to work with. And, of course we have our office dog, Bobby.’
What are the biggest challenges you face in your job?
‘Probably when you don’t know how to solve something right away. I think this is a fun challenge. Sometimes we’ll have a strange issue occurring and we can’t quite determine why it’s happening so we really have to dig into it. That is when you really learn a lot.’
What is your proudest moment at Mopinion?
‘Working together with one of our clients to make sure that an email campaign sent out to millions of customers and localized in almost 20 different countries and languages was executed perfectly.’
And now for some fun questions…
What do you like to do in your free time?
‘I like to go climbing and bouldering around three days a week so that takes up a lot of my time. I also create stuff on the computer. For example, once I created memory game for my daughter to play.’
What is your guilty pleasure?
‘Disco music…or yeah, 80’s music really. One of my favorites is Orchestral Manoeuvres in The Dark. I like this style because they don’t take themselves too seriously.’
Who inspires you?
‘Greta Thunberg. I’m not necessarily an environmentalist but I try to remain aware of what I buy in the store. We use a lot of second-hand products, try to reduce plastic use and I don’t eat meat.’
What is one thing you can’t live without?
‘My family.’
What is your biggest fear?
‘I worry about climate change a lot. I believe that we don’t grasp the changes that need to be made to limit global warming. Both on a personal level and a global level. So I suppose my biggest fear is my daughter having to grow up in a world that isn’t great.’

What is your favorite movie?
‘Most Darren Aronofsky movies like Black Swan, Pi and Requiem for a Dream. I like it when a movie evokes a feeling in you.’
What is something that not many people know about you?
‘I used to be a DJ and throw illegal parties. Back in the day, me and my friends had our own sound system and would throw parties in the woods.’
And that’s a wrap for 2019!
