Put on your seatbelts and get ready for some great mobile feedback news. Mopinion is now compatible with Capacitor! Before you rush off to start making new feedback forms for all your Capacitor apps, let us tell you exactly how it works.
Wait, wait, wait. What is Capacitor?
In short: Capacitor is a great framework for building web native apps. It allows you to create mobile applications for both iOS and Android using JavaScript, HTML and CSS.
It’s popular to use when building data-driven applications that get a lot of traffic. Like consumer apps, for example. If you work for an enterprise, this might also be the framework for you, as Ionic, the team behind Capacitor, specialises in these kinds of businesses.
Some advantages of using Capacitor include:
- It makes it easy to work cross-platform and allows developers to quickly get their apps into the app stores
- It is seamlessly compatible with third-party supported plug-ins
- It allows for great collaboration between web and mobile app developers
Why make it hard, when it can be easy, right?
Cool. Why should I collect feedback from my Capacitor apps?
Collecting feedback from mobile apps has many benefits. If done correctly, it’s a foolproof way to enhance your users’ app experience. Among other things it:
- Allows you to identify pain points. Ask your users directly what they think of your app and what they are missing from it.
- Helps you test features. By collecting app feedback you can easily deduce how successful your new features are and how you can improve them.
- Makes bug reporting easier. Who better to report bugs than the people who use your app for its intended purpose?
- Boosts engagement. With Mopinion you can trigger your feedback forms based on activities or events. This boosts engagement and makes the insights more relevant to your goals.
Great! How do I implement Mopinion in my Capacitor apps?
Easy, peasy. Follow the steps below and you’ll be ready to collect feedback from your apps in no time!
Creating your feedback form and deployment
If you’ve used Mopinion before, we’re sure that you are familiar with this part of the process. But if you aren’t, we’ll quickly go through how to create a form and set up a deployment in four simple steps. If you want to skip straight to how you implement the Mopinion packages and your deployment in your Capacitor app, then click here.
Step 1: Create a website feedback form in the Mopinion platform
Go to the Mopinion app and “Data collection” in the dropdown menu to the left of your screen and select “Feedback Forms”.
Click “New Form”.
Choose standard or conversational form and then select “Website”. Depending on your choice, you can now select one of our templates or just start from scratch.
Please note: Be sure that you are creating a website feedback form and not an app feedback form as Capacitor uses web technologies.
Don’t forget to save your form once you’re done!
Step 2: Create a website deployment in the Mopinion platform
Go back to the dropdown menu and select “Deployments”, also located under “Data Collection”.
Click “New Deployment”, choose “Website” and give it a name. Once you are done, click “Create Deployment”.
Step 3: Add your feedback form to your deployment
Drag the feedback form that you want to set live into your deployment and click “Save”.
Step 4: Copy the deployment ID
You can find your deployment ID by clicking the ‘<>‘ icon. It is the code under the headline “Using an integration or Google Tag Manager?” as you can see in the image below.
Easy, right? Now we just need to implement Mopinion in your apps, then you are good to go. Make sure that you have your deployment ID close at hand.
Implementing the Mopinion packages
You first need to install the @mopinion/deploy and @mopinion/survey packages as shown below. These are available at NPM. Please note that you need the web channel package, as Capacitor uses web technology. Your feedback will of course still go through your apps as intended!
Once you have installed the packages, simply import them into your project. Now it’s time to initialise the deployment. Insert the deployment ID for the forms you want to showcase.
Please note: We recommend that you initialise the deployment at the top level of your application as you can see in our example below.
All done! You can now manage which forms you want to show in your app from the Mopinion platform. Simply add or remove forms from the deployment that you just put live.
